  • Aleve temporarily relieves minor aches and pains due to:

    • minor arthritis pain
    • headache
    • muscular aches
    • toothache
    • backache
    • the common cold
    • menstrual cramps

    It also temporarily reduces fever.

  • Aleve works by temporarily blocking the body’s production of naturally occurring chemicals called prostaglandins. Prostaglandins play a direct role in pain.

  • Aleve belongs to a class of medication known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) but is not indicated as an anti-inflammatory.

  • The only difference is the shape. Both the Aleve tablets and caplets contain the same amount of medicine. Some people find that an oval caplet is easier to swallow, while others prefer the round tablet shape.

  • The active ingredient is 220 mg of naproxen sodium.
  • The Basics of Back Pain

If you suffer from back pain, you’re far from alone – about 8 in 10 people will experience back pain at some point. In fact, in the United States, back pain is the number one cause of disability in men over age 45, and it’s the second most common reason people visit the doctor.
You can experience pain in the upper or lower back, the left or right side — it can even radiate from one spot to another area of the back or body. Back pain is either acute (lasting from a few days to a few weeks) or chronic (lasting for more than 3 months). Acute back pain is more common and can be caused by some type of accident, like a fall or sports injury.

  • Rest

We know it can be challenging for go-getters to sit around and do nothing, but bed rest — for a day or two at most — can be an effective method for relieving back pain.
  • Exercise and stretches

Proper exercises to strengthen the muscles around the area in pain, and stretching to keep the tendons flexible, can provide relief. Each person’s condition is unique. Please consult with your doctor first to set up a treatment plan and before you begin any exercises.

  • The Basics of Knee Pain

Your knees — they’re among the most important joints in your body. They support your weight and provide stability and a “hinge” to help keep your body moving. But, between standing, walking, running, jumping, crouching and turning, it’s easy to see how there are plenty of ways to experience knee pain. It’s important to get a diagnosis from your doctor. See your doctor first before you begin any treatment and if your pain gets worse or persists.

Here are some steps you can take to help alleviate knee pain:

  • Ice and Compression

Compressing the area with bandages, in addition to applying ice 3–4 times a day for 10 minutes at a time, can keep swelling to a minimum. If your pain persists or gets worse, please consult your doctor immediately.
  • Injections

These may include steroids for possible long-term pain relief, fluids that mimic the natural fluid that lubricates joints, and platelet-rich plasma to reduce inflammation and encourage healing. Only your doctor can determine what treatment options are right for you.
  • Surgery

In some cases, surgery may be the best option, but it’s usually only considered after trying a variety of other things first. Only your doctor can determine what treatment options are right for you.
  • The basics of arthritis

The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis, affecting nearly 27 million Americans.Minor arthritis symptoms can come and go and can include pain, stiffness and swelling, and decreased range of motion. Symptoms can range from mild to severe and can change over time. Not everyone will experience the same symptoms. See your doctor for a diagnosis and follow his/her instructions. Arthritis needs to be diagnosed by a doctor. Only he or she can determine the right treatment options for you.

Here are some steps you can discuss with your doctor to help alleviate arthritis pain:

  • Physical therapy

The exercises involved in physical therapy can help make the muscles around the affected joint stronger. Be sure to check out other supporting therapies that can complement your treatment. Please consult with your doctor before you begin any exercises.
  • Hot and cold packs

This is inexpensive and convenient, and may provide some relief from pain and stiffness.
  • Surgery

In some cases, surgery may be a good treatment option. Hip and knee replacements are the most commonly performed surgeries for arthritis. Sometimes joint fusion surgery can be performed in severe cases of arthritis in the fingers or wrists. Only your doctor can determine what treatment options are right for you.
